Tibetan Box

This elaborate box is richly decorated with a dragon swirling amongst lotus flowers in the central cartouche. The field is decorated in the same style as the entire front with the raised golden “goose bump” background, which is executed in raised stucco-work, known as kyung-bur in Tibetan. Then, using the same colour scheme of red, green and blue, ornate floral patterns are connected in a lattice design, known as kati rimo, which were popular on Chinese brocades of the Ming period. The border is decorated in the same palate with colourful flowers on the raised goose-bump background.
