Tibetan Box

The leather boxes were used for storage and for transportation, as they were more robust than the painted boxes. The leather is attached to a wooden base and the iron-work is both decorative and to add strength to the structure. These original insert panels are made from embossed and painted leather, whose inspiration is probably European, although they were a regular feature of this type of boxes in Tibet.
